What does AVID mean but in High School?

I got accepted to a really good high school. and i'm gonna take AVID classes. What does AVID mean? is it good? i really don't know.
 
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, and it's a really good program u get shown the colleges like the UC's and Cal States and u go on lots of field trips plus u get tutoring and everything it's a really good chance for u, u should take it, this class is for studnets who plan on going to college, so u should take the chance get AVID u'll see the benefits u get in time. :)
 
to me it is a waste of time. they pretty much baby you through high school and tell you what to take and you'll be there from 0-6 period every year and it will suck. my boyfriend was in it and they give you medals and stuff when you graduate for "being a good kid". I thought it just made kids feel like they were smart. sorry i'm bitter about it still because he was all excited he got medals and I thought it was dumb. I did way harder things and didn't get anything for it. good for you though. they will take you on field trips sometimes........
 
Avid is a type of software used for editing film.
My bf is a broadcast communication major and it's what he uses on his projects; he says it is the best editing software available at this time.
