Around 1600 bc a Volcano exploded called Thera, now the island of santorini. The resulting exposion created a tsuami that destroyed the minoan culture and may have had a role in the exodus in egypt. In the period of time after the natural disater the Greeks with the only surviving Navy attacked and looted the Minoan culture...and likely finished or scattered it.
The monoan culture prior to its demise was an advanced bronze age culture , perhaps matching Egypt in its time. But the greeks were far less advanced at that time.
