I won a poetry contest and my poem got selected to be in a book of poetry collections that will be published in the next few months. What do you think of it?

Archaic

When it’s winter
you expect a lot of things:

Strong gusts of wind,
naked trees and frosted leaves,
buntings and rosy cheeks,
frozen water in the bird bath.

But now I stand on the bitter
black frost, a winding sheet of snow,
and in the sky the sun peeks
from behind bleak gray clouds.

And I can’t help but wonder
–in this deep, deep winter,
under the sun’s archaic smile–
if things are always as we expect them to be.
