American Sails
By Lenne Rossetti
1754?-1822
Oh blow the winds
Firm, gentle and swift
They urge on, through the seas of sapphire blue
Blow winds, blow, and keep our ship a float
Blow for freedom
Blow for justice
Blow hard
Blow long
Blow strong
Sing our song, wind
Sing loud
Sing proud
For none can dampen the souls of the free
America land of the free
And free we will be
Liberty and justice
For all
Blow wind, blow
Blow us home

As long as you find it in Project Gutenberg, an excellent source through which to find out for sure if the copyright on the poem is over, it's a great poem to use in a children's story.

Well, I looked at that site, and this poem isn't there. That doesn't necessarily mean it's still under copyright (family members can keep a copyright going)-- but it gave me pause.

Suggest you ask a reference librarian about that... IF you plan to publish this book. Or, after you get started in the publication process, ask your agent to research the rights to the poem for you.
It might be better it you didn't invest a lot into this poem until you know what the status is.
Good luck with all--
