The Rattlesnake
A rattlesnake was making it's way through the woods when it came to a flooded stream. I must cross this stream, the rattlesnake said to himself; but how? The water is much to swift for me to swim, i will surly be swept away and drown. As it thought on these things, a little boy came walking through the woods. O please carry me across the stream said the rattlesnake. The water is much to swift for me to swim. No, said the little boy. You are a rattlesnake, if I pick you up you will bite me and I will die. Not so said the rattlesnake, I wi ll treat you different. So the little boy picked the snake up and carried it across the flooded stream. As they reached the other shore and the little boy put the snake down it turned around and bite him. But you promised said the little boy, you promised! said the little boy crying, now I will die! You knew what I was when you picked me up said the snake, you know what i am!
This poem was specifically designed to teach young people about the dangers of using drugs, that it is no smarter than picking up a rattlesnake. Author of this poem is unknown to me, if anyone knows please tell me.
