I actually find it extremely disturbing. Having worked in schools, it is a policy that children are supervised at playtimes, luch times etc - especially at this age. How on earth was this allowed to happen?

I disagree. Children from abused backgrounds are quite capable of abuse - as they don't realise it is wrong.
