I also felt winter, Jeff. I see the same strangeness that you do, and wonder where the eerie quality happened. Perhaps when the rat died? That was a masterful touch!

I've worked on variations, but am not ready to post my rewrite(s). I appreciate your comments very much. It is fascinating to see the seasonal scene as other's see it.
