What do you think of the Jeep Comanche?

Hi.

I need a truck for work. Been abusing the GF's car too much. I have a line on a Jeep Comanche for $700. Selling cheap due to it needs to be gone ASAP. Of course I'm going to inspect it first. I'm not stupid.

Here is what he says:

"1988 4X4 4 SPEED!!!!

Jeeps got 99,000k but speedos broke when i got it 2 months ago,
body is in fair shape rust here and there, 2.5l amc motor, 4x4 works, clutch is good, brakes need work but will stop, engine runs rough, rich because it needs a new renix engine computer, its got new plugs,
wires, distributor, rotor, new 02 sensor, newer tires"

Sounds like he's done all the hard work already, and just needs the cash (don't we all). I reckon I can do a brake job, replace the computer, and speedometer easily enough and have a fairly intact and bulletproof vehicle.

I want to know if anyone out there has owned one of these, and what your opinion is.

Does it run good? Need a lot of maintenance?

What kind of life can I expect from that AMC? I've heard some Jeeps will go for 250 - 300 K

Is it any good for towing?

Plowing?

Appreciate your thoughts.

The Comanche is a great truck. The 2.5 is a tough engine but a little low on power. A Renix computer may be very hard to come by and someone to work on it or even check the scan codes may be next to impossible.
