The big story in the recent federal election was not only a large swing against the incumbent ALP government (-5.4%), but the fact that most of these voters preferred the Greens (+3.7%) to the major opposition Coalition party (+1.9%).
Does this indicate that although voters don't like the ALP and its direction, they like the Coalition even less and so sent their protest vote to the Greens to tell the government to pass a serious climate bill?
Or are there other ways of reading this situation? I am sure there are many factors at work. What do you think are the most important ones?
