What do you think of my short story so far?

The wind slapped me across the face as I jolted across the lawn - I couldn't be seen. Not now. Not like this. I made it to my car and shoved the key into the lock when it overwhelmed me. Firmly pressing my thumb into the key, I allowed the tears to stream from my eyes and sink into the crevice of my lips. I turned the key, unlocking the door, and swiftly sunk into the driver's seat. Nearly heaving, I lay my head onto the steering wheel, planting my hands each on the opposite elbow, drawing myself close together.

A tap on the window startled me, releasing my hands, free to smack against the door. My eyes immediately darted to the disturbance. He looked sad against the darkening sky. The trees behind him rustled about, but he remained still, staring at me. I should have noticed then what had happened: I had unraveled. Instead of letting him in, I should have closed myself off again.
