Spring’s Promise
There will come new growth and dazzling color,
And trees will push their branches just an inch taller.
Ice will melt from the edges of lakes,
Sleepers and dozers will stretch out their aches.
Birds will rejoice the reigning sun,
And all will know that winter is done.
But for now it is cold and still awfully white,
And the wind chuckles through the bare trees with spite.
The carnage of fall still lies on the ground,
The poor frozen leaves just a snow covered mound.
They have to know that this winter can’t last
But, alas, their hope and belief is fading fast.
This was an assignment for school, and I had to follow this specific format. What do you think, good, bad, overdone... any advice or criticism would be appreciated
