...person present) for fun? i'm writing a story just for fun to see how i write in 1st person present (i usually write in 1st person past and this is my first story writing like this)
well here's the first chapter:
I always thought I knew what a ghost was. I was a witch, so I ought to know what one was. Well, I was way wrong. I died the true death one day on a weekend. I was in boarding school and I managed to get run over by a car. I didn’t have a funeral because no one knew I was dead. The driver was drunk, so he just sped off like nothing happened. I sat there in agony as I bled to death. The only problem was that when I was about to reach to the other side, I couldn’t. I got trapped in between, so I became a ghost in the human world. People can touch, see, and speak with me, but I do not age. I know that in a few years now, I will slowly fade my way into the other world where I will have to be for the rest of eternity. But right now, I am forced to walk among the people who age, grow, and love each and every day. I go to school even though people don’t know I’m dead. It’s as if I’m just dragging on and on and nothing will ever change. I don’t have the powers that I used to. My powers disappeared when I died. And now it is the first day of the second semester. As I walk into class, people stare at me for I am abnormally pale. Well, I am a ghost, so I have to be pale. I cannot eat nor can I sleep. All I am aloud to do is walk from class to class and try not to interact with other students. I sit down in my seat just as the professor walks in and I pull out my text book. “Welcome class.” And the class begins. Just as the bell rings, I pick up my stuff and walk to the next class. Only then, I manage to run into someone. I don’t fall but all my books do. “Watch your way kid,” says a kid just a few inches taller than me. “Oh, sorry, I’m josh by the way. You’re new to the class, aren’t you,” he asks as he grins and helps me pick up my books.
“Um, yes. I’m Karrie,” I say not wanting to say more.
“What do you have next?” he asks as I finish picking up all my books.
“Um, English with Mr. Smith.”
“Oh, I have that class too,” he says as we both walk out of the door. And then I take my first glance at the boy. He is sexy. Black hair, Pale skin and ice blue eyes. A kind of boy most girl would die for.
“Um, aren’t you going to class?” I ask as he goes down a different hall way.
“No, I’m ditching. See you later,” he says as he vanishes around the corner.
As I walk into class, I realize that two of the desks are empty. Mr. Smith walks in and says “Hello everyone, oh and where are Josh and Mary today?” no one answers so Mr. Smith answers to himself “Well I guess that’s one absence for the semester. Two more to go and they’ve lowered their grade.”
Class drags on. I stare at the clock as he plays the movie of Macbeth and twiddle my fingers. Will this day ever end? I wonder what it must be like for the students who can actually eat lunch. As I think of the word lunch, I remember what it used to be like when I could actually eat a sandwich. Finally, the lights flicker on and I walk out of class. I head around the corner and see Josh leaning against the walls. “And here you are again. Did he mention anything about Mary?” Josh asks as I walk past him. “Yeah, you know where she is?” I ask not even know what she looks like.
“Yeah, I killed her. She won’t be going to school anymore,” he says with the slightest grin on his face.
“Should I not ask?” I say wondering what he could have done to her.
“You will find out. Until then, you might want to go off campus for lunch because people will make fun of you for not eating. I’m going off campus,” he says and walks away before I can say anything. I wonder how he knew I can’t eat I think after I open the doors to the school. I decide to go to the library to study since I can’t eat. I finish my work an hour later and head to class early. Just as I reach the history room, Josh comes up behind me and taps me on the back.
“What?” I ask wondering where he’s been all lunch.
“You not wondering about Mary at all are you?” he asks with a devilish smirk on his face.
“It’s your business. I’ve already been ki--- I mean through enough lately, I shouldn’t have to worry about what you did,” I say turning away from him.
“Suits you best. You know, you’re lucky you’re still alive after hanging out with me. Or are you still alive?” he says and before I can turn around, he is gone once again.
So what do you think? do you want to read more?
yeah i know it's written differently on my microsoft word it just wouldn't let me copy it correctly so i had to like re edit it...
