It looks pretty legit to me. Stephenie "Spegs" is the first poster. Her convos are posted on this forum starting 2003. She hasn't had any activity on that site since 2007. But from page 6+ she talks about how she's an aspiring author. (It sounds like her. Plus no one knew who she was before. 35? Lives "where the sun always shines?" klutzy girl/vampire in 2003? It wasn't even published!
*I wonder if all the ~30 year old fans are still fans after the whole Twilight franchise...
They were all "This is going to be huge!" haha if they only knew...
(A few of Stephenie's posts on Fans of Reality TV)
Spegs: "I majored in English, so of course I'm an aspiring writer. I have pretty small audience, though. I write novels for my sister, because I'm too much of a coward to go public. She's a stay at home mom, too, so she actually enjoys it when I drop a 500+ monster on her doorstep. I'm working on her christmas present right now--not even halfway through and I'm already on page 300 , poor my sister. (That's why I haven't been to the FORT as much this summer).
I did look into the whole idea of trying to get published, but I was quickly frightened off by the bewildering world of agents and queries and rejection slips. Maybe some other time when I'm feeling braver."
I have to write, though, to stay sane. Most of my live conversations revolve around "potty" and "binkie"."
"Earlier in this thread I mentioned the book I wrote this summer...well things have progressed and now I have a literary agent who wants a new title before she sents it out to editors (tomorrow--no pressure!).
So, not knowing what the story is about, what is your gut reaction to the following titles? Which one would you be most likely to pick up?
"INTO THAT DARKNESS
ALL THAT'S BEST OF DARK AND BRIGHT (or simply DARK AND BRIGHT)
ONLY HUMAN
NOTHING LIKE THE SUN
NIGHT AND DAY
Thank you in advance for your help. I kiss your feet! Smooch, smooch, smooch!"
***WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SM'S ORIGINAL TITLE CHOICES FOR TWILIGHT?
"That's my favorite too--it's from Byron. And Nothing Like the Sun IS from that Shakespeare sonnet. I'm a sucker for poetry.
For SG--yes, it has a mystery and a lot of adventure (the heroine is a klutzy girl with bad luck who generally ends up in trouble where ever she goes) but for me the point was the love story, so I wanted the title to reflect that somehow. I can't believe how difficult it is to find a title that fits. Ugh. (The original title was FORKS, the name of the little town where it's set, but that didn't work either.)"
"Lucy, I tried Forks in the Road, but they weren't having that either. Ah well.
When I find out if a publisher is picking it up, I'll let you guys know. And then I'll beg you to go out and buy a copy...ha ha just kidding....no really...I jest"
"Who knows what it will end up being called. Hopefully we can find a good lure...My agent seems pretty confident, but hey, that's her job, right?"
"Maybe I should insist on the title "The FORT is the best site on the web." Then I add a scene where the heroine visits her online buddies and praises the wonders of the FORT. And finds out who wins the Bachelor two hours early"
****"Would you believe that after all that, she decided she liked "Twilight" best? I was really warming up to "Dark Side of the Sun," too."
"Thanks again. You guys are great. I'm definitely going to work in a mention of the Fort and my buddies here on the acknowlegdments page somewhere. Let it now be said, that (unless I reign in my ire, and I probably will *sigh*) you all will be mentioned above my husband, who has yet to read my book, and gave me crap all summer about "playing" on the computer too much (and I was very careful not to let him catch me sneaking on to the FORT when I needed a breather, too). He's singing a different tune now...men."

Sorry, but I just want to add another thing about Speg's book. Little, Brown & Co is (if I remember correctly...) one of the largest publishers of YA fiction in North America. This is no small-time press, folks. The distribution (not to mention the advance ) for Speg's book is quite likely larger than what your normal first-time YA author would get.
Of course, I'm not at all familiar with the world of publishing -being an unpublished student and all that. So, I apologize in advance if my ruminations are wrong or inappropriate, Spegs. I just wanted to emphasize on what I consider to be the enormity of your accomplishment.
Might we plebeians actually be hob-nobbing with the future Rowlings, Lemony Snicket, or Ellen Conford? )
Stephenie: Out of curiousity, there are so many talented people here, has anyone ever worked with literary agent before?
Yes, definitely go see it (in 2007 or whatever). I get a fraction of a fraction of a cent every time someone
Oh yeah, I noticed she spelled "acknowledgments" wrong
