Do you think-

A. The CIA retrieved it and used it to fund undercover operations.

B. Phillippines ruler Marcos found it.

C. It's still there somewhere.

D. Another theory (please elaborate).

I think A is the most likely.
budok - Could be, but it's also alleged that he got his wealth from thieving off the phillippines, although he himself claims to have found the gold. Perhaps just a convenient cover story?
dsm - ok so not the CIA, the secret service before them, OSS? Apparantly they had some phillipines agent whose bank details show millions of dollars of funds being sent to random bank accounts across the world just after WW2. Also it's believed that Yamashita was executed with such haste so that he didn't have time to talk about the gold stashes.

the cia wasn't even founded when yamashita raided and plundered the pacific. the gold supposedly was stashed somewhere in the mountains and valleys in southeast asia. i have never read of any account of it ever being found. the only possible explanation is that it was sunk by allied submarines as it was being transported to japan and it lies somewhere on the bottom of the china sea or somewhere in the pacific ocean. also yamashita was not in command in the philippines, gen. homma was. so that puts the marcos theory in doubt. if anything was looted from the philippines, it could've been given to yamashita for dispersal or for transport back to japan.

If this is the gold of the "golden tiger" then I think it was found through the villagers. The story was on Discovery and through several magazine articles through time.

The villagers found an golden elephant and hid it in their home. Marcos secret police found out about it and took it. Several years later a picture of Marcos with the elephant in the back ground found itself in the local newspapers. There were fake elephants that were returned to the village as real, for the real thing but, the villigers knew it was a fake. Marcos claimed this was the one taken by his men.

Extensive searching and digging was done by the government in these areas and whatever was found was kept a secret. To this day, no one really knows what happen to the gold but, there were many searches and digs.
