Cold air brushed my shoulder as I thought about earlier. Is he really a demon? Or is he lying to me? What do I believe? I need to talk to me. I grab my coat and climb back through me window. My mother was waiting for me.
“How many times do I have to tell you? No climbing to the roof of the house. One slip and you could be badly injured.” I didn’t reply, just stared at her. “What am I going to do with you?” She signed. “Get some sleep you have school tomorrow.” She left. I wanted to message Severick, but I was too tired. I could just talk to him later.
My dad dropped me off in his new Cadillac. He always loves to show off. “Dad, I could just walk to school, it’s only a mile a way.” My dad turned around with a large grin on his face. “A mile’s too long for my child. Have a nice day at school, honey.” I got out of the car and walked into the school.
Someone tapped my shoulder. I looked up from the book I was reading. It was a tall, skinny boy, with black hair that was hanging in his face. His pants were incredibility tight, showing off his thin legs and he were a tee that advertised The Used.
“Hello, why are you always by yourself? Don’t you have friends?”
“No one likes me.”
“That’s not true.” The boy actually looked sad. “If you want I’ll be your friend.”
“No, thank you.” I got up from my seat on the ground and walked to class. It won’t hurt if I was a little early.
“Hey, wait.” I heard the boy running behind me. He caught up with me and surprising he wasn’t out of breath. “I heard about you.”
“That’s great.” I continued to walk. He fell in step with me and continued to talk.
“I’ve only heard bad things, but I know there’s something good in you. There’s a little good in everybody.”
“Even Satan.”
“Yeah.” He smiled at me and for a minute I wanted to smile back but I wasn’t about to let that happen again. I’m not going to let anyone get to close to me. “What’s your first period?”
“None of your business.” I increased into a stride and he stopped following me.
I got to first period a little too early, but it didn’t matter. I pulled out a book and started to read.
“Hi.” I looked up from my book and saw the same boy I saw earlier, “looks like we have class together.” He smiled, while my frown deepened.
“I don’t want to be your friend.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t need friends.” I put my book away because the bell rung and class was about to begin. He turned around and faced the front. His short black hair was pretty; it fell neatly to one side of his head. It was deep purple at the ends, my favorite color. I stared at the colors and completely forgot where I was for a second. The teacher was giving me an evil look.
“Natelie, sit next to Joey.” I looked around dumbfounded. Who was Joey? The guy who sat in front of me smiled and patted the seat next to him. I frowned and took my seat.
“So that’s your name! That’s pretty.”
“I go by Nate, okay.” Joey grinned and nodded.
“Hi, Nate!” Joey was smiling and waving at me. He was surrounded by a large group of boys and girls, most of them had their hair in their face. I frowned; everyone is so alike these days. I put my head down and ignored Joey’s hello. My notebook was much more important. I was writing a new song and I didn’t want distractions. I could feel all of them staring at me, burning a hole in the back of my head. I saw feet and looked up, I was surrounded.
