Creation vs. Evolution
Creation and Evolution are two controversial theories as to how humans and animals arrived on the planet. Creation is essentially a religious story found in the book of Genesis in the Holy Bible. The Creation myth states that God created the earth and everything in it (including humans) over the course of 6 24 hour days. Evolution however is a scientific theory created by Charles Darwin in 1836. Darwin’s theory states that all organisms evolved from a common ancestor over a period of time. While both theories have valid points and arguments to support them, to me one theory clearly rises above the other. This theory is Evolution. I believe that Evolution is superior to Creation because the scientific confirmation supporting it is abundant and overwhelming. Proof of Evolution lies with the 1000’s of fossil evidence of early hominids. Evidence such as the skull cap of Homo Neanderthal, the 40% complete skeleton of Lucy ( Astropithicus Afarensis) and the skull of Astripithicus Africanus founded by Louis Leakey. All of these fossils are verification that there were once creatures long before humans and that some of these species became dead ends while others went on to evolve into Humans. By using carbon dating we can see that the older the skeleton the smaller and more chimp like these hominids were. As the Fossil evidence becomes newer we notice that later hominids have traits such as bipedalism and the ability to use tools (more human like) This shows that over time these hominids were evolving and slowly becoming more sophisticated and less primitive. Although I believe in Evolution I would not call myself an extreme Darwinist or advocator of Evolution. Most people assume that because I believe in Evolution that I am an atheist or hater of religion. This is completely false. Though I believe in Darwin’s theory I still hold true to my Christian roots. I attend church on Sunday’s youth group on Friday’s and pray throughout the week. I find it a difficult struggle between my religion and view of evolution, as do many people. As for now I am a Christian who just so happens to believe in Evolution. How that makes sense I do not know.
