An American/Iranian woman from LA who was doing research on womens rights for her thesis has been detained in Iran. The news is just getting through - but seems she was picked up 10 days ago.

I guess it's difficult to make too much noise what with 500 in Guantanamo Bay for all that time. 2 weeks isn't very long by comparison.

To start with the supposed traffic violation most likely is women are not supposed to drive there. The second is how stupid can one be to try to show the world what we already know, Muslim country's treat women like dirt, actually that's wrong. Dirt would be worth more then gold over there they treat women as nothing.
Iran has a really bad record on human rights since the fall of the Shah. In the fifties most Muslim countries were basically on a par with other European countries but then started the call to religious rule. Women ALWAYS suffer under religious rule of any religion. Look at the LDS women. They may give their daughters to daddy and wear those dresses now but before the indoctrination took, they wouldn't have been caught dead doing either.
You go to another country you better plan on following their laws. You mess up just one time and they will own you butt.
So like I said, she is screwed. Besides which she has dual citizenship, they can hold her as one of their own. She can't claim she didn't know the rules, she's a citizen of that country. It will be up to her family to pay enough to get her free and if they manage that she should head for the border as fast as she can get there.
