What do you look for in a Woman's Mountain/Street bike?

as you can see, i'm completely bike illiterate and was wondering what the best bang for your buck is, and what the most reliable brands are etc. stuff like that, I don't want a beach cruiser ,so i suppose it would be considered a mountain bike?

There are other choices besides a mountain bike. Hybrid bikes with 700c tires are good on the road and can also be ridden on bike paths and rail trails. Comfort bikes will have 26 inch wheels and can be ridden on bike paths and are also better then mountain bikes on the road. Mountain bikes are not a very good choice if you do most of your ridding on the road or paved paths.

Visit the local bike shops and take a test ride. Most of the hybrid and comfort bikes will be cheaper then the mountain bikes. Stay away from Walmart and other department store bikes they only come in one size and have poor quality components.
