What Do You Keep in the "Trunk"?

Need is relative. I've seen video of a guy shooting while riding on his bike. I think that's a ridiculous proposition when you can out accelerate pretty much any other land vehicle in private hands by just twisting the right handgrip. That said, shooting with gloves & other equipment on is a necessary skill in certain fields.

In the instant case I am talking of gaining access to, presenting and employing a handgun, while in a full ATTGATT dress; stich, helmet and all. If you've ever had the pleasure of full MOPP gear, it's very similar.

I agree, a flame thrower would be nice in a rear firing configuration, but it's a mass area weapon and indiscriminate and would violate several laws by it's employment. I do admit though... at times I would certainly understand it's employment by a biker.

NOT that I approve, just that I would understand.

I am what you might consider a fast mover too, although I'm staring at a 2nd rotator cuff surgery. Even so, I am nowhere near quick in full gear.

As for the zombies, it's my understanding that if they don't turn you, they eat you so who cares how fast they are?

Why do you ask?

I'd bet that no matter what answer I gave, it wouldn't be enough. Regardless (and I certainly mean no personal offense) it's my business, right & choice. I could do so legally and be unpracticed, meeting only the legal requirements. I choose to be proficient at it, including regular practice, even practice under adverse condtions, competition, teaching and yes, hobby shooting.

Well... you have good taste in motorcycles, and you never know when you're going to find yourself on the right coast of the mainland. Some day I plan to make it to Hawaii... This year, I'm going to have to make to with the Isle of Man.

Come to Detroit sometime, and I'll take you on a tour that'll make your hair stand on end. We have the right to defend ourselves, using lethal force if necessary. Sometimes it's needed. Last week, an armed motorist was assaulted, and he shot his attacker. He walked out of the police station 2 hours later, and hasn't been charged with anything.

After my recent 'MacGuyver' incident with a broken gear change lever (see my thread "Am I Cursed" for pics) I now carry a Leatherman multi tool, several cable ties, duct tape, and a SPOON
For longer country trips I will also take a bum bag containing a few more tools, a puncture repair kit, and a bit of first aid gear.

Thanks but no thanks Ttpete Sounds like a shit place to live to me.

One of these days I may even lock the back door to my house when I'm sleeping at night. I just have to get into the habit.

Only outlaws and registered gun owners have guns in this country. Mind you a 12 year old boy was killed the other day at school by a 13 year old boy with a 'fishing' knife just down the road from here.

I'm not looking for an argument or fight here - I was just asking a question why some one is prepared to kill something or some one under almost any circumstance. Differences in culture I guess.

Why wouldn't it be enough?

I'm not into politics or gun laws! Nor do I care to get into a banter contest, I just figure you must be pretty damn dedicated to carry around a firearm on a bike, that's all.

You could carry around a sword for all I care, how you validate it is completely up to you

I missed that thread. Four years ago my clutch lever flew right off the 750 SS, the pivot screw was nowhere to be found. I found the lever a few hundred yards back and on the walk back I found an old windshield wiper, and jammed the pivot pin from that into the lever to get me home. It was a hella jerky stop not being able to apply the clutch from fourth gear to the road side.

It goes way back. We, as a people, rejected the concept of a parliamentary democracy/monarchy and fought a revolution to break away from a country that was oppressing us. We became a Constitutional Republic, which gave the people far more direct control over their government, and adopted a constitution that established individual rights. One is the right to defend ourselves and our property from criminals. So, as you said, it's a cultural thing. We have a segment of the population that believes it's OK to use violence to take what they want instead of working for it. We understand very well that the police can't be everywhere, nor do we want them to be. So we accept the fact that an individual has the right to resist an assault by whatever force is needed. Use of lethal force is only allowed if the person believes that he/she is about to be killed or seriously injured.

Your country confiscated and destroyed countless thousands of firearms in the not-so-distant past, presumably because they didn't trust their citizens to have them, and thinking that it would reduce crime. Taking away the means to commit a crime doesn't affect the desire to do it, it simply means that the person will find another way to accomplish it, just like your neighbor down the street. Shot or stabbed makes no difference, the boy's just as dead.

So what will you do now? Ban all knives? Then you'll have to ban hammers, clubs, and rocks. Oh, and sharp sticks as well. See where this is going?

Maybe one day when someone gets killed with a baseball bat they'll ban baseball too!

..or a hockey stick, or a crazy guy dressed up in full football garb, or a snowboard, or a newspaper, or a jar of pickles, or computer wires!
