What do you have to say about education in America?

I'm writing an admission essay for UT. I've decided to write about the detriment of things like standardized testing and state curriculum to student's individuality. Something along the lines of standardized testing is creating mechanized drones instead of students with personality, creative ability and individuality. What are your thoughts on similar ideas? What are your thoughts on education in the States?
 
I think that individualism develops regardless. Even in the strict Nazi youth programs, individuality still developed. Perhaps it's muted, but college is the place to really explore individuality anyway. The primary function of public school is to educate, nothing more.
