In the Election of 1800 there were many problems between both Federalist and Anti-Federalist. So far, there had only been Federalist as presidents. In the election it was the first time that the two parties were seen as two different national political parties. The two federalists that were running for president were John Adams and Charles Pinckney and the republican candidates were Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. Many federalists thought that Thomas Jefferson would destroy religion and radical social reforms since he was in favor of the common man. Thomas Jefferson was considered a thread to the Federalist because if he were to be elected he had a different view of the world, he was against war.
Federalist thought that if someone should be president it should be someone who was well educated such as their own party. They were against Democratic Republicans because they knew that they favored the common men, who to the Federalist were not educated. Even though Jefferson was not much happy about slavery he spoke in favor of them because they were the reason agriculture was a success. Since Thomas Jefferson was in favor of agriculture instead of business interest the agricultural society were in favor of him becoming president. When the votes were announced both Republicans were tied.
Since the election was a tied with 73 votes between Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr it was decided that The House of Representatives would make the decision because that was the law at that time.
