Usually when someone remarks negatively about anything about me I do one of three things: 1. ignore it and let it go; 2. let it get to me and sulk about it, then get over it; 3. come with a witty remark back and one up them (very rarely).
Anyway, I NEVER know what to do in situations where someone says something bad about me being gay. I've been playing by the rules of if someone asks if I'm gay then I'll tell them, otherwise don't talk about it. But is that the right thing to do? Should I just talk as if being gay was 100% accepted by society as long as I thought that the person would be okay with it? I guess I'm just afraid that they wouldn't have guessed I was gay and it will change their perspective of me, or they'll treat me differently than they normally would had they gotten to know me more first.
Anyway again, what should I do when someone comments on my sexuality? Are one of the three things I listed in the first paragraph good ways to cope, or should I do something else? Thank you!
