The lack of knowledge of electronic dance music is so disgustingly frequent in the people I meet. I don't mean people who know nothing of EDM, I mean people who think they know what it really is.
Examples:
1)"OMG, that Sandstorm song is the bestest techno song evar! Lololol!"
Sandstorm is the most repetitive bullsh*t I've ever heard, and it's not even techno. It's technically, "trance", but it's not good trance.
2)"You know that techno guy Benny Benassi? He won an MTV dance award or something."
First off, having anything to do with MTV automatically disqualifies it as rave music. Second, Benny Ben-ass-i is Electro-House, EDM's "F" student.
3)"You like techno? Cool, I love Katy Perry!"
What. The. F**k. I don't even know how this one started.
Rave music is exactly what it says on the tin, "RAVE MUSIC" i.e., made for, and played at, raves. You will never hear Sandstorm, Satisfaction, or f**king California Gurls at raves, and if you do, the DJ is a moron.
Now, to help better your knowledge, here are examples of REAL rave music.
Genres:
Happy Hardcore
Trancecore
Gabber
Drum n' Bass (Non-Mainstream)
Trance (Non-Mainstream, though Tiesto's early stuff still counts in my opinion.)
House (Non-Mainstream, non-electro-house. Hell, this is where rave music started.)
PsyTrance
Artists/DJs:
DJ SR3L
TX300
No Left Turn
Plus System/Scott Brown
Dougal
Gammer
Breeze
Styles
Sharkey
Angerfist
DJ Ravine
DJ Cotts
L.E.D. (including L.E.D.-G, L.E.D. LIGHT, and L.E.D.-G LIGHT.)
Me (T3CHN0Fi3ND on Newgrounds. I know, shameless plug.)
Songs:
Happy Hardcore:"Elysium Plus" by Plus System
Trancecore:"Jam The Nightclub" by Dougal and Gammer
Gabber:"Bite Yo Style" by Angerfist
Drum n' Bass:"Our House" by Nu:Tone
Trance:"SOMETHING WONDERFUL" by L.E.D.
House:"Can You Feel It?" by Mr.Fingers
PsyTrance:"GENOM SCREAMS" by L.E.D. LIGHT
Non-Specific:"Nobody Listens To Techno" by Base/Bass Attack. (I guess it would just be "hard techno". I didn't want to leave it out of the list because it's one of my favorites.
So, what is your opinion on real rave music? Any posts suggesting anything song on the radio will be deleted with extreme prejudice.
