What do you call an argument in a debate that takes the "give an inch, take a mile"

logic to asanine extremes? Is there a name for when people use this type of argument in a debate?

Its starts off with them given an example of what may also be affected if "x" does (or doesn't) happen, then they give a slightly more unlikely example, then they just keep going with wider scale examples to pedantic & illogical extremes.

Basically, "if you give an inch on this issue, a mile is going to suddenly disappear on similar things".

I'm sure it had a name, but I can't remember it!

Exaggerating for effect. Some call it the 'Butterfly Effect in Debate and Public Speaking'. The butterfly effect is where it is beleived that the flutter of a butterflys wings can cause a ripple effect so that it is the cause of a tornado in another part of the world.
