What do I need to make a backyard fish pond?

Since spring/summer is just around the corner, I thought it would be a good idea to build a fish pond in my backyard. I thought of it last year just was not sure where and how to start.

Also, is it possible to put guppies in the pond? I live in Canada so it would be necessary to place the fish back inside.

I wanted to know what kind of heater, bricks, materials, hose I would need to get started or where I can look to get started?
