My 1997 Ford Ranger 2.3 (4 cylinder) will not start. It has 160,000 with routine maintenance. Although, it has plenty of juice so it sounds like it wants to start. I am in Southern California. This is my forth ranger, and I have driven this one easier then my others, yet my others lasted at least over 200,000 with simply just changing bad sensors and light maintenance. Here are some of the things I checked:
1- No Check Engine light on (even when I just turn the key to the on position and not the start position all the other indicator light turn on except the check engine light remains off)
2- No Fuel pressure (I tried pushing the little button that releases the pressure on the rails) - It sounds like it wants to start, but not getting any fuel.
3- No fuses are blown
4- I switched around the relays in the power distribution box
5- I don't know if this is related, but all the cigarette lighters went out while i was driving it just before i made it home.

When i went back out to drive the truck, it wouldn't start up.

6- I've tried starting it without the air filter on

.. I think it needs a new ECU since the check engine light wont even come on at all. I want to try to remove the maf sensor and the fuel solenoid sensor to see if the check engine light will come one. What should I try next?
thank you so much :)
