What do girlfriends and boyfriends do together (weird question)?

Okay let's say these two people are friends and have been for a long time. The girl is at the guys' house to finish a History project. But somehow they end up kissing each other really passionately and saying "I love you" to each other, because they both secretly really really were into each other. What are some things that could happen after that? Other than just forget about it, assuming they become girlfriend and boyfriend. Also, how do you know you're girlfriend and boyfriend anyway? Do you tell eachother or is it just a given after you kiss like that? Or after the kiss would you go on a date or so and then declare yourself GF/BF? This relationship stuff is weird.

Just so you know this is NOT about me, it's about fictional characters for a story. I've never had a boyfriend or dated or anything so that's why I need information from people who do know.
Oh and it's two teenagers, a 16 and an 18 year old.
 
There is probably ackwardness since the both are unsure if maybe the other one just got caught up in the situation.

Nice resolution would be a real date. They talk, find out that they both feel the same way, and then the guy asks the girl out.

The guy might introduce her as his girlfriend and the girl might acknowledge that that is how she feels too,
 
Well they could keep dating. They would also know they're BF/GF if one of them say it. And if one is 16 and one is 18, they will probably go seperate ways in a couple years. So sooner or later their relation ship will fail.
 
To make it official, either of them should ask each other if they want to be like, you know, "together". Is that all you were wondering??
