What diseases can Mosquitos give a person besides West Nile and Malaria?

I have heard so many different opinions and wanted to know if anyone had any medical knowledge on if mosquitos can give humans diseases besides the malaria and West Nile. Can they transmit the aids virus or any other disease? We have had a lot of mosquitos in our area and it just got me thinking. Does anyone know how many times they bite? I heard that they bite one time and then die but I don't know if that's true or not.

Thanks to all who can advise.

Here on the northeast coast, mosquitos carry EEE...eastern equine encephalitis...a brain disease that kills horses and humans. They catch and test every summer and spray heavily in infested areas.

And there are many different types of encephalitis but I don't know how many are carried by mosquitos. But around the world, mosquitos carry a lot of different diseases...including the infamous African Sleeping Sickness...another form of encephalitis that kills a lot of children in Africa.

Do a little research and you'll be surprised and horrified at to how many diseases they carry. As to whether they bite more than once, I imagine they have to in order to get the disease than pass it along.

Why don't you go to the Infectious Disease board since these are all infectious and ask there. You might get some good answers.
