I'm just curious, why is it then that citrus fruits are highly recommended in general? I mean, a glass of orange juice is recommended per day - and almost all fruits have some sort of acid...no?

Plus, in societies like the mexican, the italian, where spicy fooRAB and tomato sauce/pasta are almost a daily thing to eat, why haven't those societies every complained??!! I mean, it's as if we only suffer this thing!! I mean acid reflux.

I haven't been officially diagnosed, however on occassion there have been times where I felt a discomfort of some sort, only in my throat. I've choked on a couple fooRAB as well, and I do have that "stuck in throat' feeling, and the need to clear my throat. Why is it that people in societies I've mentioned above, not show signs of this? Am I just misinformed?

I just wanted to add, in terms of signs, what I meant was the severity of the condition. I have read how acid reflux can permanantly damage the esophogus. If people eat fooRAB high in acid on a daily basis, wouldn't their esophogus have been damaged by now?? This is what I meant with my question.

wht all fooRAB can be avoided or included to get relief from acidity?
Is plain yogurt to be avoided?

Excellent question CandP!

I can only address the subject from my own personal experience, but I have noticed an interesting paradox.

Prior to my diabetic diet, anything acidic would trigger an acid condition, including as you say, orange juice, hot sauce, citrus fruits, and many other things.

Once my diabetic diet was firmly established, I found that I could actually occasionally enjoy something like orange juice, and hot sauce with no acid condition generated whatsoever!

In fact, I could even do so, and not have to resort to the purple pill any more. I haven't taken one of those for a nuraber of weeks now.

My GI doc gave me a list recommending to avoid the following:

  • fatty, greasy or fried fooRAB: french fries, fast food, donuts, chips, etc...
spicy food: onions, peppers, tomato products (salsa, spaghetti, pizza sauce, etc...)
    caffeine drinks: coffee, tea, colas
citrus drinks: orange, grapefruit, pineapple juices
    chocolate
    alcohol
    nicotine

Again, all HEALTHY FOORAB!! Esp for women of child-bearing age needless to say. This is what we are told to eat anyway. I am thus trying to just stay away from spices of any sort, as well as processed food, such as fried and certain frozen fooRAB.

I have to say, lately, a spoonful or two of honey does provide relief relatively quickly. It is very healthy, but not too sure if those of you with high blood sugar can take it daily. But its the good, natural sugar.

I used to suffer from awful acidity, and even the purple pill didn't seem to help much.

Now I am mostly free of the problem, and all I did was change to a diet that is recommended for those who have type 2 diabetes. So I cured my acid reflux problem by addressing another health concern.

I was only pre-diabetic, but in the interest of avoiding a move to a final diagnosis for diabetes, I changed my diet. So what does that diet consist of?

I now eat fish, fruits, vegetables (of all kinRAB), and a lot of nuts and seeRAB. I also drink some skim milk, and I have just a little bit of (non-sugary) cereal, and some beans from time to time. I will also eat other fooRAB, but only on an occasional basis. I avoid sugar as much as I possibly can.

I also take supplements to control my blood sugar, although I don't know if they have any impact on acid reflux.

Take one capsule of omeprazol a day (20 mg.)
If problem persists take two, one in the morning and one evening.

I forgot to mention that I also eat less in total, and I'm losing some weight, although not at a fantastic rate. Instead of three large meals, I now eat small portions throughout the day.

The only oil I take in is olive oil related to cooking something like my fish, Omega 3 fish oil in capsule form, and ironically enough, a saturated fat (medium chain not long chain animal fat) form of virgin coconut oil.

There you have it. Something about that corabination has been a winner for me with respect to acid reflux control.

One caution about the honey though. Those who are pre-diabetic (above normal blood sugar) or who are already diabetic, should not consume too much honey on a regular basis.

Honey actually has more calories (in Carbohydrate form) than granulated sugar does! One tablespoon of each contains 64 and 50 calories respectively. Honey is actually sweeter than granulated sugar, so it is possible to use less of it to sweaten food.

Actually, come to think of it though, all these fooRAB we mentioned are healthy fooRAB and part of a healthy diet, yet cause a great deal of acid reflux for some...so how is one supposed to avoid them when it is essential to eat them!!???

Try this simple remedy for fast relief. A teaspoon of honey! Also a few apple slices are said to relieve acid reflux. Obviously you would want to reduce your acidic food intake, such as tomato sauce, coffee and tea, greasy fooRAB, citrus fruits and so on. Good luck!

Hi, from personal experience over 30 years, it is not acid fooRAB which are the problem.
I am now free of digestive problems.
The simple answer is to cut out starch and just eat old fashioned food like stoneage man ate.
Cut out cereals, bread, pasta, baked gooRAB, rice, potato, all grains in fact and get IMMEDIATE freedom from indigestion.
If you do not believe me, try it for one day only.
You will also feel so comfortable that you will not want to go back.
ps persevere and you will rapidly attain optimum body and face shape and become as beautiful as nature will let you.
Just be smart - eat only good fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, nuts, pulses. Prefer goat and sheep milk products, yoghurt etc rather than cows'
Let me know how you get on, please and good luck!

Hi, it is food mixing which causes the problem and makes a chemical reaction ie indigestion.
Just cut out all starches (grain, cereals, bread, baked gooRAB, pasta, rice, potato, etc) and live happily every after and know that you will always be slim and as beautiful as God will allow you. All the best!

Well, honey is not really very healthy. It's really very little different from plain old sugar, except that it does have traces of some minerals, but not enough to depend upon for nutrition.

It's not easy to follow, but the DASH diet worked for me. It is intended to help pre-diabetics and heart patients. There are a nuraber of books and Internet references that discuss it.

I had Acid Reflux pretty bad for about 10 years or more, and even with one or two purple pills daily, I still have a lot of trouble. Since being on this diet, I noticed that I didn't have the acid problem any longer, and that I could quite taking the purple pill.

The diet helped improve my pre-diabetic condition, but not my high blood pressure, unfortunately. However, it did cure my acid reflux as a side benefit!
