Way back in the '50's, I used to ride to work in a bike, with a petrol-driven gismo that clipped onto the back wheel. Sat on a mudguard, and clicked into place on the back tyre so that it started up when you pedalled?.
Crappy device, but it worked. Rain, snow, hail, sleet, it worked.
