What could this problem with my car stereo be?

I recently bought an 01 Chevy Tracker, a small SUV. It appears the CD player/radio was put in...not the original that the vehicle came with. CD player is fine but the radio itself hardly comes in at all....even the local stations that ALWAYS come in....even in my house with my tiny radios. Anyway...thought maybe the antennae but that seems fine...I'm not sure how to even check anything else & I hate to take it to a shop unless I have to. Does anyone know what this might be? Because I'm thinking of just trying another stereo/cd player that I have but hate to go through all that for nothing? Thanks...
 
yea, the antenna plug is disconnected. you may need an adaptor to get it to plug in if they're different sizes and/or wires are too short (had it happen once with an aftermarket radio)
