What could this be caused by...?

Yesterday I was at work, and I somehow noticed that the side of my face hurt. On my left cheek. It wasn't severe at all, just annoying more than anything.
I was alright for the night.
Today, I wake up. My left side of my face is slightly swelled, and hurts moderately, until I touch it-then it hurts severely. Its very sensitive.
The sensitive spot is rather large and is from the middle of my cheek to just around the front and below my ear.
My gums and teeth do not hurt. However, I am in severe distress because it is painful and the swelling is starting to worry me.
I think it has gotten worse but I cannot tell.
My mum says something similar happened to her, and it was her sinuses, but I don't know what to think!
 
Sounds like it might be Trigeminal Neuralgia? A friend of mine has that and from what you describe, it sounds the same. I"m not sure there is usually swelling associated with that, but might be. On the other hand.....if there is swelling...maybe it's a bug bite of some sort. If it doesn't get better...trip to the doc.
 
I checked, no visible marks on my face. No bug bites or scratches.
My mum thinks it might be a Sinus Infection-though after talking to various people we have now dismissed the idea. Its not where the glands are.
My mum thinks it might be TMJ.
I don't think its TN, as it seems like I would suffer far worse pain.
Guess I will find out tomorrow-going to the doctors first thing.
