My family and I have discovered that there is a mother bunny and a litter of 7 (now 6
) living somewhere on our property. The kittens are old enough to be out feeding by themselves but they still nurse from their mother (we've seen it...so cute). We've been watching them from afar for about a week and we haven't done anything but look (like we don't feed them or try to touch them or anything).
Two days ago, I was out scouting for bunnies when I saw a baby die before my eyes - it twitched for a bit and then lay still, lying on its side. We didn't want to leave it there so we buried it and gave it a little funeral. I know we maybe shouldn't have moved it (we used gloves to pick it up by the way), but I just couldn't leave the little guy. The strange thing, though, is that it seemed unharmed. It wasn't bleeding or anything, and I've seen all 7 of them eating both grass and nurse from their mom. I'm just wondering if there's some sort of disease that kills rabbit kittens, or if there's maybe something poisonous that they could have been eating. We haven't seen much of the kittens and their mom since, we've only seen them out in 2s. We might just be being paranoid and the rest of the family might just have been in the bushes.
I know it's nature's natural course that animals live and die and all but my whole family is really hoping that our new little neighbours make it!
Any help would be great
