What could be wrong with my ford taurus 1994?

My problem is with my car....The car wants to turn over but it won't. The battery is strong, the alternator is good. It's not the starter...cause it does not have a clicking sound. I already had a tuneup and an oil change.
Before it stopped it was sputtering while I was at a light then my check engine light came on and then it stalled. I tried to get a jump but that didn't work.
So does anyone have an idea what it could be?
 
you have to get the code read to start with.
a lot of things come to mind..
mass air sensor
egr valve stuck open, that would stall a motor via to much air.
could even be a broke vacuum line
weak fuel pump or pressure regulator
