What could be causing this acceleration problem with my car?

I have a 2004 Honda Civic and this thing is the best purchase I ever made. It has been reliable and I've never had an issue with it... until about a month ago. I feel like lately the car doesn't want to accelerate like it used to. I feel like the RPMs are rising pretty high and I really need to push the pedal to get it moving. It is really only a problem when trying to accelerate fast when getting on a highway or when accelerating after the traffic light turns green. This is probably a pretty simple problem with an easy fix but I'm not much of a car guy and I don't know what to do. Thanks
