What colour to paint my front entry bench?

I have fair sized entry painted light tan with dark brown/neutral colour throw rugs, pictures are also neutral nature scenes, and i have several plants in the entry also,what would be a good colour to paint an entry bench? I had it stained but stripped it down due to some damage and do not want to stain it again as some damage will be too noticeable. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome as i am not a decorator in any way shape or form...lol...i need some help on this. And would it be a good idea to apply a coat of water based polyurethane for extra protection and so it doesn't yellow? Thanks much
