What color(s) should I paint my room?

So I'm moving into a house in a few weeks with a few buddies. They have already moved in and painted their respective rooms. I'm looking to paint mine as well, but I have no idea what color I should paint my room. All my furniture I have is black and is sort of a modern theme. And the carpet in the room is a silvery grey. So I'd like to paint it something that may accent these items. The room was previously used as a nursery, so it currently is split with the top 2/3rds being a canary yellow and the bottom 1/3rd being a baby blue. I was thinking I could potentially follow these guidelines and make a 2-toned room. But I'm by no means a professional painter so I'd prefer to either just have 1 color, or use the 2-tone set-up that's currently in place.... so I'd prefer to stay away from anything too complicated.... maybe 3 walls one color and the 4th another as an accent.... but in general something simple. I am a male, so I don't want to paint anything purple or other similar colors. I'm looking for something that's going to be easy, yet something that will look impressive.
