What color beret did the US Army wear before black?

I know the Rangers Used to wear Black Berets, but then everyone wore one and now the rangers wear tan. What did the rest of the army use to wear?

Rangers - Black
SF- Green

Regular Army wore a patrol cap or garrison cap depending on what uniform they had on.
