what causes tonsil stones?

I have my tonsils and what appears to be food, someone told me that they were tonsil stones. I tend to have kidney stones, are they related?

Hi Katielyn,
Tonsil stones also called Tonsilloliths is trapped bacteria.
Have you tried gargle with warm salt water , this can loosen the stones and stones can be picked out with large cotton swab.

If this doesn't help and looks infected , best to get antibiotic to treat bacteria. In time it can come back.

Katielyn, this is not uncommon, many just don't know what it is.
Hope this gives you some insight of what this is.

Some doctor one told me...if you have tonsils, you will have tonsil stones. I gargle a lot and that really helps to keep them few and far between. I never pick them out...then get dislodged eventually and I just spit them out... uggh

I get these quite a bit and usually just take my fingernail and get them out but like I said, I get them quite often. UGGGG!!!! I will try the saltwater. Somethings got to work here!!:dizzy:
