An impeller failed in operation within 2 years of service (expected 8 years). 1 of 13 impeller vanes found detached from halfway. Open impeller inspection finds cavitation corrosion marks. The impeller was possibly run on clogged condition from inlet, because an instrument valve was not opening to full (75% max). But I am surprised that impeller failed from one vane. What can cause the blade to fail if dry run or clogged run of pump could occur ? Is that fatigue ? is that over stress ? Thanks for reading, reply.
