What causes a 99' Honda Accord to cut off while driving but you can crank it...

I have a 99'honda accord I have no problems except that every once in a while it may cut off while driving but you can crank it up will still rolling.When I got it hooked up when check engine light was on they said it may be a sensor on the transmission.Will this cause the problem and will it be alot
