Drawn Into You
By Lindley Agustin

I am drawn into you
like a moth dashing
to a distant lamp --
the moth who
wins the flying race
for when the heat touches him
he knew it was his.

they buzz, swarm
around the frozen astute lamp
for without the flies he can’t live
for how could his radiance
glow if no one is there to awe.

But that single moth knew
that the lamp is life itself
he senses the blood
running as it creased
like music to him, like hands on
his subtle skin.

The moment its wings
flap and bump on the glass
they are tiny silent beats –
trembling fingers of an
old man tapping the arms
of a wooden rocking chair.

All evening
Under the cold moonlight.
