I am currently a few weeks into my last two years of schooling for an education degree and lately I have been thinking that I don't want to teach. I already have my associates and I have only just begun the education program, currently going for a degree in elementary education. I am committed for the semester and plan to make the effort for my grades sake, but I am trying to think of what else I could do if I stick with my degree program. For what it's worth, I have worked at an elementary school as a teaching assistant for five years, and I am just now starting to feel this way. Its to the extent where Im not sure I even like kids as much as I used to. I have a math disability and that makes narrowing down a major even harder, because the fields I am interested in involve math. I don't want to become one of those teachers who is only there for the paycheck, disinterested in their job, (which I have never understood, everyone knows how little teachers make!) because that is not fair to any potential students I might have. I am artistically inclined and would enjoy exploring art, but I am not certain that I would want to get a degree in art because I will want job possibilities after college. When did college become the employee-making machine anyways, I thought it was supposed to be about exploring and developing one's self. My big questions are.....aside from teaching, what are the potential job options for an education major? Should I pursue the degree for the sake of having a degree or should I switch to a major that I might appreciate more? What are some ways that I could figure out what I need to be doing with my life? (Because time just keeps passing and I need a degree) Insights and advice would be great. Thanks in advance!
