Today we were driving to a jewelry store to sell my mom's engagement ring. She ended up missing the turn and knew a side street that had a second way of getting there. She was coming off of a busy street and she tried to make a left turn. She turned left and moved forward a little bit and all of a sudden, out of no where, a bike rider comes out in front of her. She stops as fast as she can, but it's too late. She hit his pedal or back tire, knocking him to the left of her car, and he landed on the sidewalk. She was barely moving and he came out onto the street really fast. He was a minor (15) and he wasn't wearing a helmet. He got up right away and apologized and tried to leave. My mother kept saying that he shouldn't apologize and the police was called. A lot of witnesses were around and they all told the police that it couldn't have been avoided and he came out of no where. The kid had to go to the hospital because he's a minor and he can't refuse treatment. He was fine and he called his mother. The police told my mother that they have to finish the case, but it's more than highly unlikely that they're going to cite her. They didn't take any of her insurance information. they just looked at her license and registration. They told her that she could leave and she did. I was in the car when this happened. It happened in the blink of an eye. I didn't even realize what happened until it did.
My mother wants to know what to do about this because even though she handled it well, she's a nervous wreck. She also wants to know who's insurance has to pay for the ambulance.
She wasn't texting or on the phone when this happened, just to clarify.
Any information you can supply helps. Thanks.
We have a family attorney, so that's already resolved.
