I want to start writing articles I guess and try to get some published to spruce up my college resume, but unfortunately I always end up with a blank! I can write about anything, but all I need is a first sentence then I'll work like a machine! But what to write about? I want to know from all of you what subjects would you like to be discussed in a magazine or newspaper?
Instead of an article I was thinking of writing some short stories for the newspaper or a magazine. I was thinking something like an orphan boy (ugh....It's ALWAYS about an orphan boy) who wants to find his real parents, but the orphanage tell him that he was just dumped there when he was a toddler with no memory of who he is and with this little information, he still has some hope and some how (Still thinking) he ends up in another dimension, confused and scared but as he goes deeper he finds that, that strange place is his home err.... world, and he must find his family.
But then how could someone end up in another dimension? I need some idea on how. Possibly, I could throw in a mad scientist! Or do you think this story might go to crazy?
I just stuck an idea! Instead of another dimension, he turns out to be a son of angels! And he finds his way to this made up place kinda like heaven, not really heaven but close. Where all the souls who don't go to heaven or hell go because there's something unsure about them and that's where he meets the strange hearted ones. What I mean by unsure is that, I remember reading somewhere that "God will let you enter his palace when your ready" and these souls aren't ready and they can't force themselves to be ready because something is unsure
Oh, and my writing style. I was hoping to write really nice like "The new yorker" style. I love that magazine! I have a 5 year subscription.

Suggest that your best bet for a topic would be to write 'factual' rather than 'fictional,' to be published for the first time (and for your college resume).

I've written so many, I can't think now. Hmm...
I remember one on peregrine falcons, back when they were on the federal endangered species list, and that list in this state.
I got to see a nest in the wild and watch the birds in action (a big no-no at the time) --so I researched the falcons and wrote it up as an article.

You can write about how to 'live green,' the 'carbon footprint,' politics (town councils are fine, but link it up to the point of interest to readers), sports events (also local is fine), theatrical reviews, book reviews and on like that.

Go factual to get published quickly (hopefully) and to truly 'spruce up' your resume.
If you really need prompts, try to find the right kind at:

After a quick look (just run your mouse over one number at a time), I like # 7 and 105.
But if you use these, choose for yourself. I gave these two as examples of things you can write about factually.
Good luck.
