What can I do to get better looking photos?

I do not always have the best pictures. I have only accasional ones. how can i get them to turn out better.

Extra information:
I don't have acne on my face or anything, i look good in person but then when i get my picture taken it doesnt look as nice.

Any ideas? or just ways to take a picture? like the way im taking it
