what can i do if i don't want to press charges on ex husband for burglary of habitat?

ok so here's what happened...it was christmas eve morning & my ex called me @ 4am (we were together 10 years & still keep in touch) he asked if he could come over i could tell he was very drunk i told him he shouldn't drive he lives over an hour away he hung up but kept calling i had over 30 missed calls from him i didn't want to answer the phone. i was with my boyfriend in bed & at 6am my ex was trying to break in my apt (he didn't know i have a boyfriend or that he was here) he kicked the door my boyfriend called the police they took forever to get here. he couldn't kick the door in & he got a box cutter & cut my window open its Plexiglas's not real glass he reached over & unlocked front door & came in we locked ourselves in bedroom when he kicked the bedroom in he stepped in & stood there looking dazed & confused he had a knife in his hand finally the police came in & arrested him for burglary of a habitat 2nd degree felony he is already on probation for burglary of habitat (baby momma drama) i know its not a excuse but he was intoxicated & we don't want to press charges or go to court & i don't want him to go to prison what can i do to help him out in this case? he is a good guy who made a terrible mistake i know he wouldn't have done this if he was sober i still care about him as a friend & i want to see him finish raising his son...not go to prison...any advise would b appreciated
