My husband and I bought our first home about a year ago. It is in a real small town and we bought it because it is a great house that we got an incredible deal on. However, our neighbor who lives behind us also owns a large lot immediately next to us. There is a very dilapidated house and lots of miscellaneous junk on the property. When we bought our house were were concerned about the house, but just in the past year it has gotten A LOT worse than it was a year ago. The house has been rapidly falling apart and cats and other animals are becoming a huge problem. They go in and out of the house, get in fights, and are constantly hanging out on our property as well. In the summer the mosquitoes are terrible as well because of all of the junk collecting water. I have become concerned about health risks and the risk of vandalism and fire. I do not want to start a battle with the neighbor and I dont want to burn any bridges in this small town. The neighbor that owns this property is well known and liked in the community. My question is what, if anything can my husband and I do to try to fix this situation? We considered calling someone, but we were not sure who to call exactly and we also do not want the neighbor to know that we are doing anything.
