What can be done to lessen the gap between men and women in sport?

I think that sports overall are gendered, and men are encouraged to play sports while girls are encouraged not to.
Kind of like how math and science and gendered to appeal to boys more than girls, which is why by the end of high school, boys do way better in math and science than girls do.
