What book would you like to see turned into a film?

Definitely the Incarnation of Immortality books by pierce Anthony, especially the first two: On a pale horse and Bearing an hourglass.

Fab stuff, dread to think of the special effects bill though !!

Having enjoyed Fight Club, I'd like to see more of Chuck Palahnuik's books converted - I think that 'Lullaby' and 'survivor' would both look excellent on screen!
 
I'd love to see any of the Laurell K Hamilton vampire books (the Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series) make it to the screen. Also, Kelley Armstrong's Bitten (werewolf/vampire story) would be good.
 
These have been optioned but never made:

"Pest Control" by Bill Fitzhugh.
"Spares" and "One of Us" by Michael Marshall Smith.

These (AFAIK) haven't bee optioned:

"Song of Ice and Fire" and "Fevre Dream" by George R.R. Martin.
"Mirror" (or almost anything) by Graham Masterton (only "The Manitou" and an ongoing adaptation of "The Sleepless" have been filmed).
"Night's Dawn" by Peter F. Hamilton.
"The Descent" by Jeff Long.
The "Anno Dracula" series by Kim Newman (though there may be copyright problems with some of the characters :( ).

Re Piers Anthony, Warners have announced that they are starting work on a "Xanth" series of films.
 
Can't see that really working, the cartoon versions of 'Soul Music' and 'Wyrd Sisters' were shocking!

I read a series of books called 'The Wind on Fire' by William Nicholson recently (kiRAB books, similar style to Pullman). If the right style was used, they'dbe bloody impressive on the big screen.
 
Yes, I was about to say Wind on the Fire.... I love those (have a signed copy- yeah!) but I do think the Zars could be like kiRAB from Village of the Damned.

I would also like to see Artemis Fowl!
 
Rarely does a book turned into movie actually work. I admit that sometimes the movie can be better than the book but hardly ever. Still, I say that as an avid bookworm.
 
I agree, but I still like to watch movie versions of books if only to see if the film-maker's interpretation of the source material is the same as mine. That's the main problem with adaptations - you can't please everybody because the way you read and interpret a book is a personal thing.
 
Good to hear there are other ans of these books. Only found them by accident when looking round a second hand book shop on a rainy day... great discovery!

I'd love to see the moving cities and the Zars on the big screen. Mind you,the books are aimed at kiRAB, but i can't imagine the monkey wagons would get past the censors!
 
Hurrah! I know, I knew then since they were released but I know few people who have read them.

I think the whole Aramanth concept is great, but I rekon on screen it could look like a flat Minas Tirith!

Frankly, I doubt these books arent so well loved or even well known to be made into a movie...... but the city on wheels and the sand storms etc. would be so cool!
 
Yes you're right about the interpretation of a book. If you got 5 people to read the same book there would be 5 different takes on it even if they all really liked it. What annoys me about books being turned into movies is the way the main characters etc can be totally changed. In Tom Clancy's Patriot Games Jack Ryan's wife was very dark, tall, clever etc in the movie she was small, blonde and pretty dumb. Also the plot on screen would just jump and if you had read the book you would be sitting there wondering what had happened to chapters 5 and 6. I think if people are going to spend the money on making a move like that then they should at least stay true to the basics.
 
'his dark materials' trilogy by philip pullman. I remember hearing about this being turned into a film quite a while ago but not heard anything since.
 
Most of Christopher Fowlers stuff would make excellent movies: Pyschoville, Roofworld, Spanky, Rune, Darkest Day et all. Rumours abound of film adaptations but sadly none (that I've heard of) have actually made it to the big screen as of yet.
 
I never saw it, but apparently he made a cinema ad for "Roofworld" when it was first released. I think that's the greatest prominence anything of his has had on the silver screen :( . There's a "download" section "Coming Soon" on http://www.christopherfowler.co.uk/pages/home/home.html - as it was his firm that made the ad, maybe it will go up there.

According to the website, a lot of the books have been optioned, but none seem likely to come to fruition. The 2 that sounded most likely to be made were Spanky (but Guillermo del Toro, who was due to do it seems to have a full slate) and Psychoville (but as Natural Nylon has collapsed - and I don't think Jude Law and Sadie Frost, the putative stars, are talking - this seems unlikely).

I've not seen them, but apparently the following short stories have been filmed: "The Master Builder" (as "Through the Eyes of a Killer" with Marg Helgenberger, Richard Dean Anderson and Joey Pants) for US TV; "Left Hand Drive" won Best British Short Film in '93 and played cinemas and Channel 4; "On Edge", another short, allegedly also had a limited cinema release and features Doug "Pinhead" Bradley, Charley Boorman and some guy called Christopher Fowler ;) ; "The Most Boring Woman in the World" is another short.
 
I would like to see ROBIN HOBBS' trilogy "THE LIVESHIP TRADERS" turned into films. Any fans of fantasy books should check these books out.
Or any of the ALICE BORCHARDT books!
